Preparations for Varalakshmi Vratham:

The preparations for Varalakshmi Vratham typically begin on Thursday night, which is considered the night of the goddess. Women clean the entire house, decoration the entrance, and prepare for the puja. Traditionally, rangoli symbols are drawn at the entrance of the house to welcome the goddess.

 

On the day of the puja:

On the day of the puja, married women take a bath early in the morning and wear silk sarees and gold jewelry. The puja begins with Kalash Sthapana, which involves the invocation of the goddess into a Kalash or pot. This is followed by Panchang Sthapana, which is the establishment of a lunar calendar.

The puja also includes 64 yogini Pujan, Shetrapal Pujan, Swasti Vachan, and Mangala Aarathi. Women must tie a turmeric-covered thread called Maangalyam on their right-hand wrist, signifying the bond of marriage. They also wear a Pongu nool, which is a sacred thread tied around the neck.
